1) Tesla boss Elon Musk has announced the formation of an artificial intelligence startup.

The new company is called xAI, and includes several engineers that have worked at companies like OpenAI and Google.

The company's website says the goal of xAI is to "understand the true nature of the universe."

The new firm will host a Twitter Spaces chat on Friday, which may reveal further details about its aims

2) Google creates AI with same level of accuracy and bias as doctors.

Can medical misinformation be filtered out? 🤔

Researchers at Google have tested the performance of a large language model, similar to that which powers ChatGPT, on its responses to commonly asked medical questions.

They found the model incorporated biases about patients that could exacerbate health disparities and produce inaccurate answers to medical questions.

However, a version of the model developed by Google to specialise in medicine stripped out some of these negative effects and recorded a level of accuracy and bias that was closer to a group of doctors monitored.

I think we all knew that AI was always going to assist in this field, I mean, people have been essentially diagnosing themselves using Google for years - so a large language model which is carefully refined and monitored will eventually become common tools for clinicians.

3) Anthropic launches ChatGPT rival Claude 2

Anthropic (the AI safety and research company) has launched Claude 2, an advanced large language model (LLM) that excels in coding, mathematics, and reasoning tasks.

Claude 2 is designed to simulate conversations with a helpful colleague or personal assistant. The latest version has been fine-tuned to deliver an improved user experience, with enhanced conversational abilities, clearer explanations, reduced production of harmful outputs, and extended memory.
