🤖 OpenAI, Google and More Pledge to Watermark AI Content

PLUS: WoW Players Spring Trap on AI Article Generators

Almost the weekend! But first, where AI is making the headlines 📰 ...

TOP3️⃣NEWS

1) OpenAI, Google, others pledge to watermark AI content for safety.

OpenAI, Alphabet (GOOGL.O), Meta, Amazon and Microsoft have pledged to implement measure such as watermarking AI-generated content. It’s currently not clear how this watermark will be implemented, that’s still for those companies to work out.

The idea being that consumers of AI will more easily be able to spot deep fakes images and videos, but also even audio and text.

It sounds like a step forward in gaining some of the public’s trust around AI, but it will be interesting to see how it works and how criminals will inevitably try and find workarounds.

2) ChatGPT Plus gets Custom Instructions

Open AI reveals that unveiled a potentially impactful feature for users for its ChatGPT Plus subscription service ($20/month): custom instructions, a new setting that users can toggle on when logged into their ChatGPT Plus account.

The setting allows the AI chatbot to store information about how the user wants it to respond and behave, retaining this perspective even when the user closes one chat and begins another.

3) WoW players spring trap on AI article generators

World of Warcraft 🧙🏽 fans are claiming victory over AI after a gaming site published a false article based on their Reddit posts.

Members of the WoW subreddit suspected their words were being extracted and used to create news stories by a bot. So they laid a trap, by uploading excitable posts about a new feature called Glorbo.

Of course Glorbo doesn’t exist.

Gaming site Zleague reacted by presenting Glorbo as genuine, and listed a range of other increasingly bizarre (and fake) features mentioned in various subreddit threads.

This has definitely got gamers worried about the quality of their news
