1) Worldcoin Launched by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman 🪙

On Monday Worldcoin was launched by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Forbes answers some of the questions, but in a nutshell; the project's core offering is its World ID, which the company describes as a "digital passport". The idea is that the passport will prove that its holder is a real human, not an AI bot.

To get a World ID, a customer signs up to do an in-person iris scan using Worldcoin's 'orb', a silver ball approximately the size of a bowling ball. Once the orb's iris scan verifies the person is a real human, it creates a World ID.

Personally, I don’t want to hand out my biometrically recorded personal identify and have it tracked by a centralized company 🤯🤯.

2) Stability AI unveils FreeWilly language models

We’ve all seen the movie, well us oldies, but this version of FreeWilly1 and 2 is a large language model (LLM), unveiled on Friday by Stable Diffusion’s company, Stability AI. 

Both models are based on Meta's Llama models, with FreeWilly2 already using the newer Llama-2 model with 70 billion parameters. The FreeWilly team's own effort is "careful fine-tuning" with a new synthetic dataset generated with "high-quality instructions.

These models have performed far less costly and far more environmentally friendly than most leading LLMs, and yet the models still produced outstanding performance, comparable to and even exceeding ChatGPT on GPT-3.5 in some cases. Sound promising!

3) AI Could Replace you all with ‘Peerbots’ 🕴🏽🕴🏽🕴🏽

A peer in the U.K.'s House of Lords warned his colleagues that they could all be replaced with “peerbots” if they aren't cautious about AI.

Richard John Denison (also humbly known as Lord Londesborough), told the upper chamber in a debate on AI Monday that he tried to write his speech using a chatbot.

He is, he said, concerned that such technology will “soon be able to write my speeches in my personal style, having scraped [parliamentary record] Hansard" and then deliver an address "in my voice through natural language understanding, having analysed and processed my speeches on parliamentlive.tv, and with no hesitation, repetition or deviation."

"We had similar expectations with the digital revolution. If you look back over the last 25 years, we have indeed witnessed extraordinary changes both as workers and consumers: the smartphone, e-commerce, automation, video communications, contactless payments, and working from home.”

The debate came after the House of Lords library published a review of AI and its development, touching on the risks and regulatory battles over the emerging tech.
